Impact
At PHILO we care about the planet.
Sustainability
At PHILO we care about the planet. Our supplements are packed in upcycled jars made from recycled plastic waste collected from the four most polluted oceans in the world. By not using any virgin plastics and instead recycling plastic waste from the ocean, we ensure circularity and drive sustainable change.
recycled thermoplastic
Being made from recycled thermoplastic, rPET guarantees lower carbon footprint vs virgin plastics, aluminum or glass, due to the fact they are not made from fossil fuels.
Biodegradable refill pouches
To even minimize the use of recycled plastics, we have designed biodegradable refill pouches. Buy one Philo Starter Kit and refill with our pouches.
Reduced carbon footprint
Our light weight plastic jars and biodegradable refill pouches cut the average packaging weight by 75%, resulting in a reduced carbon footprint and a reduction in packaging waste.
Clean ingredients only
We combine science with the best of nature. Formulated with clinically proven ingredients. Highest quality nutrients from nature. All designed in effective formulas for your wellness journey.
Q&A with our packaging partner
Single-use virgin plastic has done more damage than good to our planet. Humanity now produces more than 200 million tonnes of municipal solid plastic waste annually. This is equal to around 523 trillion plastic straws which if laid lengthwise could wrap around the world approximately 2.8 million times. So, the lifecycle of virgin plastic does not end when we conveniently throw away our plastic waste in the garbage container, but extends far beyond this point, potentially for thousands of years.
While using exclusively recycled thermoplastic rPET and no virgin plastics ensures a lower CO2 footprint vs other materials, such as aluminum or glass, due to the fact they are not made from fossil fuels. A 2018 study cited by the Association of Plastic Recyclers found recycled plastic resin uses anywhere from 79% to 88% less energy to produce than virgin resin, depending on the type.
At SHIELDLER, we call ourselves material engineers because our materials and products are 100% recycled and recyclable. Our products achieve the lifecycle circularity of a plastic product and do not contribute to the contamination of the environment. SHIELDLER's vision is to eliminate the use of single-use virgin plastic in its entirety, and we are leading this revolution by providing high-quality recycled plastic products to the healthcare and nutraceutical industries.
SHIELDLER rPET comes from the collected post-consumer PET containers of NORDIC countries.
To ensure the compliance of raw material, the production, and the end product, we track and control the required documentation of each role in the supply chain.
The feedstock, methodology, and the processes of recycling post-consumer PET into food contact materials have obtained the safety evaluation and authorization of EFSA, which was provided according to the Commission Regulation (EC) No 282/2008 of 27 March 2008 on recycled plastic materials intended to come into contact with foods. Thus our rPET Pellets are safe to be used up to 100% for the manufacturing of materials and articles for contact with all types of foodstuffs for long-term storage at room temperature.
Our manufacturers have GMP standard which ensures the quality of each production.
Our end product passed the migration test according to EU regulations so our products can be sold without any safety or compliance concerns in the market.
The PET bottles would be sent to the recycler to get properly recycled according to Commission Regulation (EC) No 282/2008 of 27 March 2008 on recycled plastic materials intended to come into contact with foods.
After that, the bottles would be washed, dried, melted, and extruded into rPET pellets and developed into SHIELDLER 100% recycled supplement pill bottles.
There is no proven method of recycling plastic at home, but consumers can creatively reuse their plastic products into planters, supply cups, and even piggy banks.
By the definition, a carbon footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gases (including carbon dioxide and methane) that are generated because of the activities of a particular individual, organization, or community.
The increase in carbon footprint is adversely affecting our planet through climate crisis and plastic pollution is a big contributor to it. Plastic waste is choking the landfills, polluting our oceans, and adversely affecting our environment. Especially, the pollution from the usage of single-use virgin plastic is skyrocketing without any constraints on production. Global research conducted by Pewtrusts.org says that if no action is taken to deal with this issue, then twice as much single-use virgin plastic will be produced and four times more plastic could flow into our oceans by 2040.
Acting as a catalyst for a sustainable future, SHIELDLER’s post-consumer recycling plastic waste program aims at reducing the use of virgin plastic waste generated in the healthcare and nutraceutical industries by creating sustainable solutions from recycled plastic. By recycling post-consumer plastic waste, our EU- manufactured and certified recycled plastics program contributes to eliminating toxic plastics from the environment and decreasing your carbon footprint.
First of all, glass and rPET are both recyclable, but glass creates more greenhouse gases over its lifespan than rPET plastics.
Here’s a case in point: melting points. Glass must be heated to between 2,550 F and 2,900 F before it can be formed into a bottle.
That’s a lot of fuel consumed and emissions released into the atmosphere. PET’s melting point is just 300 F. Less fuel burned means fewer emissions—and a lower carbon footprint. One cannot look away from the fact that rPET has high material durability and is easy to carry therefore the carbon footprint in transportation is less than glass which is fragile, requires secondary packaging to protect the material, and is more complicated to carry.
At SHIELDLER, we are striving to change the framework of how healthcare and nutraceutical industries approach plastic in product development and use and reprioritize the importance of using sustainable plastic solutions by recycling post-consumer waste and taking accountability for their impact.
